well, there are a huge number of things that could stain an aquatint.
What happened the most with my prints, is that I was to eager on taking out the ink, and white stains appeared randomly.
Sometimes the acid isn't mixed enough with the water and it eats more in some sectors than others.. or the particle film isn't evenly adhered to the plate.
In the end, being careful is the only things that matters (:
