An atmospheric composition.

Thanks!
One of the hardest critiques I received by the time was that my images lacked any perception of atmosphere. So this was done in an effort to balance a whole series towards that feeling.

I quite enjoyed the lack of 'atmosphere' in the other pieces, it must be said; it gave them an abstract aesthetic that I am fond of. I guess it all depends on perception, really! You're most welcome, of course.

Yes, it always depends on perception (and the way we can manipulate it).

There's something about the contained abstraction which brought me the idea of sharing an emotion, even though atmosphere serves that purpose in a clearer manner.

Still I remember the first test print. This image wasn't supposed to be ready; it was intended to hold much darker contrast. But it looked so finished, that I couldn't touch it any longer.

I agree; this does have a complete feel about it as-is. A much stronger contrast would give an oppressive aesthetic, I think.

Omg that's amazing!! I see, this is Aguas Calientes then! I didn’t remember the name of this place since I haven’t been in north Chile in a very long time.
They are definitely the same mountains and the same point of view, lol! But all the colors in your pic and the spacing! They are just epic! I can see why it’s your preferred shot!
Btw, your shot is way nicer than my cramped composition!
I mean, everything is so tight together here that the elements can’t breathe properly.

Many thanks for such nice comment. (and fave)

Did you draw yours from photo or from sketches when you were there ? the rendering of the overall scape is really fine, but definitively what I loved up there was the colors!
You should try to get it with watercolors :D

by the way, got a couple of other shots from Chile in my gallery in Torres del Paine area (a pity that you got that fire over there) and Atacama ; definitively amazing places :)
have a look !!

Ahh no prob at all, it’s my pleasure. I’ll take a deeper look to your gallery, k?

Old pics served as reference for the sketch here. I did remember flamencos and strong yellows near the white of the salt, but that was maybe another Salar. Definitely I have to go back and draw, and fill my camera with landscapes and textures… it has been way too long ago. Atacama is really amazing, full of magic just like you said; and I’ve been going only to the south during the last years.
Have you been in Conguillio? Llaima volcano and the lakes are totally cool with araucarias all around. And I’ve heard wonders of the national park Alerce Andino also.

I was totally mad with the fire issue in Torres del Paine… awful fires are started every summer along Chile. Few years ago woods burned around the area of el paine too, and they are just making legal changes against pyromaniacs now… u_u

Unfortunately not been in the place you quote, it was a quite short trip in Chile , and you get there so many different things to visit

Maybe I'll come back some days !
