Pure fun
I would say etching is easier, because it allows less knowledge in terms of chemistry than lithography. And some mistakes can be redrawn, while litho. only allows erasing to plain white.
But etchings have tricks too, while engraving make a durable print, aquatint gradients are delicate and difficult to preserve in long editions.
